Quick Tips: How to Organize the Bathroom Clutter
Your environment is a reflection of you. Be aware of what you create, because you create your reality. It takes only a minimal effort to create a stress-free haven in your bathroom. You’ll feel the difference every time you’re in there, and your nosy guests will envy your organization as they secretly peek into your drawers and bath cabinets!
- If counter space is available, use decorative trays to display frequently used cosmetics.
- Store extras, such as soap or razors, in labeled containers. You might also store these near the shower or tub for those times when you run out.
- Label products with the purchase date. Some products lose their potency or dry out over time. An item purchased in the 1990s might not still have what it takes to banish that blemish or illuminate your locks.
- Makeup has a tendency to build up bacteria. Most makeup has a shelf life of only two years; mascara, only three to six months. If the product is clearly separating or you can see spots on your lipstick, it’s time to throw it away.
- Dump any products that are caking, crackling, or crumbling. If it’s your favorite product and you can’t part with it, replace it with a new one.
- Pack a travel cosmetic bag for those times you are in a mad dash out the door. No need to pack the entire bathroom for a night or weekend away from home. Keep a clear plastic case with a small container of each essential item.
- Be sure to keep all toxic cleaners out of reach of children. Purchase some clear plastic shoeboxes so that you can store these items overhead and then pull them down on cleaning day.
- Avoid duplicates, and use multitasking products when available.
- Go through all products at least once a year, if not twice. Your favorite product may have been pushed to the back of the cabinet and finding it will be a pleasant surprise.
